Pay 2008 - Update

(29/June/08) The final part of the 3 year pay deal is due to come into force from October 2008. The 2006 agreement stated that the award will be the “greater of 2.5% or RPI as at September 2008)”.

Higher Education Pay Dispute Update

(26/05/2006) We understand that the talks between the Higher Education employers and the academic unions AUT/NATFHE have broken up today. “We are now expecting to go back into talks with all the unions and employers involved early next week. We hope that the talks at ACAS with the unions in dispute have proved fruitful and we can now move to settle the dispute within the nationally agreed pay bargaining machinery as soon as possible”.

Advice on AUT/NATFHE Industrial Action

(16/05/2006) We have received a small number of reports of UNISON members being asked to cover the work of academic staff taking industrial action, particularly in respect of work relating to exams.

With the exam season coming, I thought it would be helpful to resend the advice to members in the event of this happening.

“UNISON respects the rights of other trade unions to take industrial action and members in HEIs are advised to continue their normal duties and responsibilities. UNISON members should not be expected to take on any additional responsibilities being given to them directly as a result of the AUT/NATFHE industrial action. Any examples of members being instructed to do so should be reported to your branch or regional office.”

Higher Education Pay Talks Update

(26/04/06)UNISON and other support staff unions met with the employers’ organisation, UCEA on the 24 April to continue discussions our pay claim for 2006/7.

Joint union pay claim for Higher Education

(28/03/2006) The joint union pay claim for Higher Education was submitted to the JNCHES meeting held on 28 March 2006. The key points are as set out in the motion submitted to conference with one additional point requesting the deletion of the bottom point on the pay scale following discussions with the other support staff unions.

Consultation on Bringing the Pay Claim Forward

(06/03/06)A meeting was held with with the employers on 10 January to have an early discussion on the pay claim for 2006/7. The academics also met with the employers on the same day, but would not meet jointly.

UNISON members accept pay offer

(29/09/05) UNISON members in higher education have voted overwhelminglyto accept the 2005/6 pay offer. 88% of members responding said they were prepared to accept the offer, the turnout on the ballot was 36%.
