(02/04/07)The legislation introduces general and specific duties to promote gender equality across all school functions. This will require schools to be proactive about how they mainstream gender equality to ensure that this is built into everything they do. The legislation requires that consultation in the development of the Gender Equality Scheme takes place with the trade unions.

The Gender Duty and Schools

(07/03/2007) The Gender Equality Duty (GED) comes into force on 6 April 2007 in England and Wales. But schools do not have to have their gender equality schemes published until 30 April 2007. This is because the code of practice was only finalised in December. In Scotland the GED has to be published by 29 June 2007.

Show Racism The Red Card

(08/08/2006) Show Racism the Red Card is part of the FARE (Football Against Racism in Europe) network.

Show Racism the Red Card is an anti-racist charity which was established in January 1996 with the aim of using Professional footballers as anti-racist role models. Although racism is on the decline in professional football, it is unfortunately on the increase in British and indeed European society. The aim of the campaign is to combat racism through anti-racist education and professional footballers are showing the way in terms of making a stand and fighting racism.

Tackling Homophobia In Schools: Resources for Staff

(08/08/2006) Spare Tyre’s acclaimed show for secondary schools BURNING has now been released as an anti-homophobia DVD resource for teachers that supports the PSHE curriculum KS3 and KS4. The show toured London schools in autumn 2004 and nationally in 2005.

Tackling Racist Bullying in Schools

(March 2006) The DfES have produced guidance for schools to tackle racist bullying in schools. These guidelines have beendeveloped in partnership with anti-racist organisations, schools, local authorities, professional associations, community and voluntary sector groups and young people themselves, the guidelines offer suggestions for lessons, staff training and anti-bullying strategies to help schools identify and prevent racist bullying and deal with it robustly should it occur.

The organisation campaigns on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transperson issues as they affect education and those in education.
