MPs' council housing group enquiry: UNISON response

17 May 2004
In this submission we urge the CHG to look at the current system, particularly in the light of the recent Public Accounts Committee’s examination into the value for money of stock transfer, and understand why many residents, and many housing officers agree that transfer and PFI are a retrograde step. UNISON is also pleased to be able to bring the CHG a solution to the problems affecting council housing. (872k download)

ODPM select committee report into decent homes

UNISON response
6 January 2004
A Parliamentary committee has been in session gathering evidence on the implementation of the English government's Decent Homes Standard. It is hoped any recommendations that the committee make will have an impact on the government's investment strategy and will create the level playing field of investment choices that UNISON and tenants have been campaigning for. UNISON has submitted this written evidence, and gave verbal evidence in December.

Public Accounts Committee: Stock transfers do not offer best value

8 August 2003
The all party House of Commons Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has criticised the housing stock transfer programme as poor value for the public purse. This UNISON briefing outlines the main points of the PAC’s report, which is also included. Branches facing housing investment option appraisals should bring these issues and the PAC report to the attention of local tenant groups and your local authority.

The Decent Homes Standard or the decent social housing target

12 May 2003
