Decent work and social protection

Millions of people across the globe are employed in jobs that does not afford them a living wage. They are the working poor who can never break out of the cycle of poverty. For that reason UNISON recognises that decent work must be recognised as the central and most essential element of sustainable development. It should be at the heart of social, economic, trade and development cooperation policies.

Decent work and social protection project
UNISON is involved in a four-year project which aims to empower trade unions and social organisations to work in alliances and advocate for social protection in line with the ILO Decent Work Agenda. The intended project outcome is to ensure that social protection becomes recognised as a fundamental right for everyone.

Decent work and labour standards forum
Employment is central to poverty reduction but not any job is a good job. Only decent work allows people the right to a decent life. With this in mind, a diverse range of organisations including trade unions, businesses, international development and labour rights NGOs set up the decent work and labour standards forum. The forum is committed to promote decent work and raise working conditions and rights.
