Strike for fair pay

Taking action for fair pay

UNISON general secretary Dave Prentis joined members in Westminster to demonstrate just how poorly their 2.45% pay offer stacks up against inflation.

More than 500,000 local government workers took strike action on 16 and 17 July to call on employers to sit down and talk about improving the offer.

Congratulations to all UNISON members involved in last week's pay action. It got the campaign off to a very good start.

There is now an understanding that talks with the employers can go ahead, with a timetable to be agreed. We have not, therefore, named a date for further strike action and will review progress over the coming weeks.

Our local government members in Scotland are currently balloting on whether they should strike over their pay offer.

We look forward to hearing their verdict next week.
