UNISON is London's biggest trade union with 130,000 members across the capital. Our members are people working in the public services, or for private contractors providing public services and the essential utilities.

They include frontline staff and managers working full or part time in local authorities, the NHS, colleges and schools, universities, the electricity, gas and water industries, transport and the voluntary sector. Members are organised into 152 branches.

UNISON's priorities in Greater London include campaigning for a living wage and promoting equality for all our members.

Joint statement: local government pay negotiations

Local government unions UNISON and Unite, and the National Employers, in the context of the current dispute on the 2008 pay settlement, agree that a new era of employment is needed to reflect properly the contribution of the workforce in purview of the NJC to service improvements and the future needs of local people.

The Regional OT Forum met on Friday 18th July 2008.

Further education unions reject pay offer

Unions representing 250,000 college workers in England have rejected the latest pay proposals from employers, who failed to put any new money on the table when negotiations reopened on 5 June.

British Waterways members accept 2008/09 pay offer

Workers at British Waterways have voted overwhelmingly to accept a pay deal for this year which will give them a 3.5% pay rise and an extra day’s holiday.

Probation Service Consultative Ballot

UNISON and the National Association of Probation Officers is planning a consultative ballot of members to gauge support for industrial action over the employers refusal to pay automatic incremental progression on 1 April 2008. The ballot began on May 1st and will close on 30 May.

Unions win new rights for Agency Workers

UNISON has been instrumental in winning equal treatment for agency workers
after 12 weeks in employment, despite resistance from employers who wanted
rights after one year.  The deal, hammered out between the TUC, the Government and the CBI, will be followed up by a European Directive and UK legislation to deliver equal
treatment.

OFSTED staff work to rule in pay dispute

1000 members of UNISON and PCS are working to rule in a dispute over pay. The
action consisting of a ban on overtime and working only contracted hours for
the weeks 19 May until 30 May will disrupt the tight inspections schedule for
children’s homes, nurseries, boarding schools and child minding services. The
move on hours is the latest in a series of action by employees over the
imposition of a divisive new pay structure and below inflation three-year pay
deal.

Healthcare for London - A Framework for Action

A copy of UNISON's comments on the Darzi consultation can be downloaded.

Lost in UNISON? - Steward inductions

Many new stewards feel overwhelmed when they first start. They’re unsure of their role or what’s expected of them, they don’t know where to get advice and information or how to get support from or influence the organisation.

Regional Cuba Appeal

The Regional Cuba Appeal was launched at the Health Training Day in October and has, to date, reached over £35,000 in banked donations.
