Why it matters

We're asking all UNISON members to go to London on March 28 to march for jobs, justice and the climate as the world faces up to the economic crisis caused by fat cat bankers.

UNISON is at the forefront of campaigning to protect public services, and the jobs of our members who provide them. We recognise that in difficult times they provide a vital safety net for those struggling with unemployment, price hikes and house repossessions.

Public services have never been more vital to our society and our economic recovery. That's why we're leading the drive to get thousands of our members on the streets in protest against job losses and the threat to public services as hardworking families foot the bill for bailing out the banking system across the UK and beyond.

With other trade unions, environmental, development and faith organisations, we are calling on governments to put people first.

The G20 summit brings together world leaders, including Barack Obama, at a summit meeting in the UK at the beginning of April and we need to send a strong message to these world leaders that 'business as usual' is not good enough.

It's time for a new start, time to put people first and to tackle poverty and climate change as we seek solutions to the mess the bankers have made of our economic system.
