Independent Safeguarding Authority Scheme goes live on 12 October 2009

The Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) has published a progress on the implementation of the new ISA Scheme. The latest consultation on the scheme closed on 20 February 2008 and the Authority is currently analysing the responses to this, with the formal Government response expected by May 2008.

Next groups to join the General Social Care Council register

The GSCC are now working towards the registration of the next group in the workforce, those working in domiciliary care services and their managers. 

Branch Guide on the Vetting an Barring Scheme

UNISON has produced a Branch guide to the new Vetting and Barring Scheme that will be introduced from October 2008. The Vetting and Barring Scheme replaces the previous List 99, POVA and PoCA schemes will be managed by a new organisation called the Independent Safeguarding Authority.

UNISON response to NMC consultation on code of conduct 2007

(26/09/07) Following wide UK consultation of our members in nursing and midwifery, UNISON has submitted a detailed response to the NMC consultation on proposed changes to their code of conduct.

New NMC president

(26/09/07) Nancy Kirkland, UNISON member from Scotland, was announced yesterday 25/9/07 as the new NMC president. Nancy Kirkland has attended UNISON nursing sector meetings and we congratulate her on her election.

NMC FtP hearings - payment of subsistence

(02/04/07) The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) has determined that with effect from 31 March 2007 the routine, automatic payment of subsistence (ie travel, hotel accommodation or meal allowances) to registrants appearing before its Fitness to Practise panels will no longer be provided subject to the exceptions below.
